consider·ation

consider·ation

PETE presents consider·ation, by Rose Proctor, is part of my mother’s keeper: a constellation of care. The piece is an invitation to joy, curiosity, presence, and awakening to the potential of what could be. Each audience member is welcomed into their own discrete installation — a blanket fort filled with children’s books; a sea of blue objects with a canopy of paper stars; a giant nest of twigs; an abundance of postcards, photographs, and paper clippings to peruse, rearrange, and make into something new. Hand-written notes from the artist invite questions to be pondered or ignored, experiments to try or not; there are a plethora of suggestions, but simply to be here is enough.

About the constellation:

my mother’s keeper is a constellation of work exploring the possibilities of organizing in alignment with care; a meditation on child care, elder care, hospice care. PETE will be producing a series of performances, events, workshops and engagements over the next 3 years in relation to these themes. consider·ation is the first of these.

Artist Statement

This piece began as a way to share my artistic influences, the lineage of artists who have taught and inspired me. I realized that the gift all those artists had given me was a greater sense of wonder. I want to share with people the joy that can be found in wondering, in being asked simple questions, to be more curious about themselves and the world around them—under their feet, at their fingertips—to be more present, awake, alive to what is there (especially the small, often overlooked details) and the potential of what could be. I am attempting to create environments for people to regain some childlike curiosity for a moment, to remember the delight that can come from exploring freely, without fear of judgment or any particular end goal. These are spaces for noticing, for escaping, for being; an opportunity to consider, to imagine, or just to rest.
